In 1995 (I think) I was asked to come tell a group of preachers in middle Tennessee why I believed the earth and universe were probably old. The notes developed for that discussion resulted in a privately published book summarizing some of the more accessible means used by the scientific community to determine physical ages. To my knowledge there is no previously published work that puts all of these results together in one document. It distresses me no small amount that this is the only topic many conservative Christians seem interested in concerning scientific apologetics, when God has provided so much more powerful testimony to His existence and His Word independent of the time issue. However, as noted in the foreword of the book, maybe placing all this data in one convenient repository will serve some useful purpose for you, even if you do not agree with the conclusions drawn from the data.

This new essay by Tom Couchman is the best review I know of concerning the Old-versus-Young Issue. The LIB website is honored to be able to publish this essay on the web for Tom. He is not writing as a scientist, but simply as your brother. As such you will recognize his sincerity, easy manner of presentation, and genuine concern for those of all viewpoints. I highly commend it for your study. Tom's essay fills a much needed void by bringing together in one document some of the primary physical facts, both young and old interpretations of those facts, and assessments of the viability of the interpretations. You'll not likely find anything better than this on this topic by any other authors I know of, yours truly included.
